![]() ![]() Sometimes showing up is as easy as being prepared. Write out a presentation and practice it every day until the day comes to present it. In this situation, all you need to do in order to be successful is be prepared. For example, you might need to approach investors for your new business. If something is out of your comfort zone, break it down into manageable pieces to overcome it. If you’re willing to push yourself past your limits then you will achieve your goals. ![]() It’s important to know that these challenges are all part of the process and should be welcomed. If you truly want to achieve your goals you have to commit to them and sometimes that means doing things you don’t want to, things that are out of your comfort zone. Success will not just land at your feet you have to chase it. You have to show up in order to get ahead. If you had showed up, at least then you had a chance. It’s guaranteed that you will not get the job because you decided that you didn’t have a chance anyway. You start to get cold feet and decide to stay at home. Imagine you have a job interview and you’re 1 candidate out of 100. If you’re working full time, show up everyday, on time regardless of whether you feel sick or you’re to stressed out, whatever your excuse, ignore it and show up. If you’ve committed to something then turn up! If you’re at university, turn up to every class and every lecture. Winners never quit and quitters never win. There’s another aspect to committing and that’s turning up. Don’t be the person who talks, be the person who acts. If you plan on doing something, you don’t need to tell everyone, just DO IT! If you’re going to quit drinking, do it! If you’re going to commit to university, do it! If you’re going to start a business, stop talking about it and do it! People will notice once you’ve started. No one cares about the things you’re going to do, people only care about what you are doing. Tell the world what you intend to do, but first show it. Don’t say you’re going to do something unless you’re ready to commit. Another common one I hear is ‘I’m going to really start trying hard at work’ but then they take time off for holidays and complain that their boss is making them work overtime or they call in sick because they ‘might’ be getting the flu. This is an excuse, if you really wanted to quit, you would quit. People always say it’s really hard to quit smoking and you have to try a few times before you successfully quit. I know some people who are constantly saying they’re going to do something, stick to it for a few weeks and then, all of a sudden, forget about it or go back to their old ways.Ī common one is ‘I’m going to quit smoking’ then a few days later they’re smoking again because according to them, ‘it’s been a stressful week’. That’s because I knew why I needed to change and I know where I want to be in life. I’ve never once had the urge to go back to my old ways. From that moment, I’ve never looked back. In a time frame of about 30 seconds I decided to quit drinking, quit partying, quit giving up and to chase my goals. This is bullshit! When 2017 came, I remember it was the 22nd of January, I had just woken up from a big night and on that morning I said ‘That’s enough, it’s time to make a change’. ![]() People always say it’s harder said then done, it’s not that easy to stick to your goal or it’s not that easy to quit something you’ve been doing for years. You have to know why you’re doing something. That’s the thing, unless you truly want to do something, you’ll never stick to it. The problem was that I knew it was time to change, but I didn’t have a goal to justify the need. It’s easy to say you’re going to do something and then never act on it but it’s powerful to decide you’re going to do something and then give in 100%. The next weekend would come around I would say the same thing, then the next came and the next and the next, until eventually it was a running joke. The weekend would come around and I would tell all my friends that I wasn’t going to drink but sure enough, I did anyway. In 2016, I wanted to give up drinking and focus on working towards my goals. If you say you’re going to do something, do it! ![]()
